Tiberio Gorges excursion on rubber boat


Information, prices and reservations for an excursion by dinghy to the Tiberius Gorges.

The excursion by inflatable boat to the Tiberius Gorges includes the crossing of the geosite and a walk along the river Pollina depending on the period downstream to the small Gorges or upstream to the lakes where you can swim.

How to get there:

Exit at 20 Castelbuono (Pa) or Tusa (Me), follow the direction to Finale di Pollina in both cases; after the village (for those arriving from Castelbuono) or before the village (for those arriving from Tusa) take the SP 52 for San Mauro Castelverde (Pa), at 8 km (fork Borrello) turn right and continue on the SP 60 for 1.5 km until the fork Tiberio, here always right along the road (first paved and then dirt) for about 700 m to the equipped area La Rocca where the path begins.

Clothing:

shorts, t-shirt, rock shoes, gymnastics and sun hats (in case of cold weather, you can rent a boat). It is recommended to wear a gearbox.

Price includes: excursion, equipment (rubber boat, helmet and life jacket), guide, services of the « La Rocca » picnic area (secure parking for the car  toilets, showers, tables and barbecue) for the all day.
Price doesn’t include : shuttle from Gorges to parking area for bus or camper and, if you want, you can use security locker.
In the picnic area there is a bar and a little shop where you can buy water shoes for excursion.

Some information about the Tiberius Gorges

The gorges, a Geopark site recognized by UNESCO, are about 400 meters long and date back to the upper triassic. The Gorges are located in the Pollina River between the territories of San Mauro Castelverde, Castelbuono and Pollina in the Madonie Park a few kilometers from Cefalù.
Inside you can see: “U miricu”, the many nests with eggs laid by the birds that inhabit this environment, the fossils of gastropods dating back to about 120 million years ago, the boulder at the center of the route once secret passage of robbers and sought after who lived in the many caves and hiding places in the area, the games of light and of course unspoiled vegetation.
The excursion, which lasts about 2 hours, includes the crossing of the geosite in a rubber boat and a walk along the river Pollina according to the period downstream to the small Gorges or upstream to the lakes where you can swim.
Along the way you can admire a typical river flora and fauna. Bee-eaters, yellow dancers, buzzards, a pair of golden eagles, larks, owls, crabs, eels, frogs, dragonflies, are some species of animals that live in the area of the Tiberius Gorges.
At the end of the excursion you can take advantage of the services offered by the equipped area La Rocca (bathrooms, changing rooms, bar, shower, tables and barbecue).

BY TRAIN TO THE GORGES
Thanks to the agreement between MadonieAPassoLento and TRENITALIA it will be possible to easily reach the Tiberius Gorges by train from the station of Pollina or Cefalù. A shuttle service will take you to the Gorges. For more information click here
